Donna was born in Victoria on July 14, 1944. She moved with her family to Black Diamond, Alberta where she met her true love, Mike. They were married in 1963 – married 63 years!!
Mikes Navy career took them back to Victoria, BC where they raised their family.
Donna had a very successful 34-year career with CIBC with 2 a year break where she and her mother, Ethel Briggs, owned and ran the Esquimalt Deli. She worked in many different branches in Victoria but when Mike retired they moved to Parksville. Donna was extremely knowledgeable, loved, and well respected by her peers and management. She became branch manager of Parksville, Qualicum and finally Country Club in Nanaimo. Because of her knowledge in so many areas and her caring people skills, CIBC rehired her to fill in branches where they needed help until full time staff was in place. Donna spent 10 years travelling around BC including Tofino, Ucluelet, Powell River, Gibsons, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, Invermere, and Grand Forks.
Donna is survived by her sons, Dennis and Darryl (Laura); grandchildren, Nicole (Eric), Chelsea (Conor), Grayson, and Briggs; 2 great-granddaughters, Josee and Ella; her sister, Lynn; and her brothers, Mike, Russell, Bart and Tracy. Donna was the very best aunty to her many nieces and nephews who she adored and spoiled, also special friends, Chris Crampton and Colleen Duncan.
Donna and Mike were always looking for adventure and on the move. Many visits to South Carolina to see Darryl, a trip across Canada with a trailer, the British Isles, Hawaii, Mexico, and many more. When she wasn’t travelling she was making amazing cards, knitting, sewing, playing games on her iPad, and playing crib or rummy with her grandsons – that was the ultimate thing to watch.
Many thanks to the staff, nurses, and doctors at NRGH for the care given to Donna. Special thanks to all the staff in Hospice who made her last days comfortable and went out of their way to assist with all our needs.
