Ella Marina Ruth Hilton

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Ella Marina “Ruth” Hilton, nee Richardson (Pennell) at the age of 88 on June 30, 2023 after an 8+ year battle with dementia. Predeceased by her parents, William and Alice Richardson, brother Chuck, brother in-law Stephen, sister in-law Barbara, son Gregory, nephew Stephen and husband Kenneth. She will be dearly missed by her daughters Christine (Keith) and Barbara, stepson Allen (Susie), stepdaughter Susan; her grandsons Russell (Caroline), Justin (Liz), Brandon (Vicki), and Ryland; great grandsons, Toby, Callum, Alec, Adam, and Nathan; siblings David (Kay), Ralph (Barbara), Kenneth (Dorothy), Mary (Wilf) and Elizabeth; and all her nieces and nephews.

Ruth grew up in Armdale, Halifax NS. She worked at A.J. Bell and Grant until she moved to Ottawa in 1974. There she worked at CRTC until she retired. After retiring she and Ken moved to Halifax until they moved to Nanaimo for their remaining years. They did some traveling and she especially loved going to Ottawa to see the grandchildren.

Ruth loved musicals, puzzles, bowling, walking, beautiful gardens, dancing, singing, and knitting. She enjoyed her time volunteering at the NS Rehab Auxiliary, teatime with family, and spending time with extended family. Ruth had a beautiful voice and would keep her LTC family entertained regularly.

We would like to thank the entire staff at Woodgrove Manor for the wonderful care Ruth received during her time there.

Burial and celebration will take place in Halifax on August 11 at 3:00 at Fairview Cemetery, and afterwards a reception at 45 Melrose Ave, Halifax.
