After fighting a long battle with cancer, we sadly announce the passing of Gary Wall. A devoted father, husband and grandfather, born May 4, 1957, in Terrace B.C.
Gary led a lifetime career as a business owner of a cement finishing company that had him travelling between Nanaimo and Fort McMurray. He was lucky to have his right hand man that stayed by his side from the beginning and through the years, willing to take on new work ventures alongside Gary. He continued to have some great employees that became family friends over the years. Eventually, Gary tried retirement and he and Brenda built a beautiful home in Courtney, B.C. But, always loving to be busy, he became a car salesman at Island Honda. He loved the work, constantly learning and committed to providing excellent customer service. Mostly, he loved the community that came with working within the dealership and seeing his coworkers each day.
He was hardworking and devoted to providing a comfortable life for his family. But, as hardworking as he was, Gary loved vacationing with his wife in their favourite spot, Waikiki, HI. He was always up for adventure and that spirit took Brenda and Gary on an extended trip to Africa where they brought supplies to a community in need, went on a safari and created so many wonderful memories. One of their most fondest memories, is of their trip to Tuscany, Italy where they relaxed at a beautiful private resort, taking in the incredible Italian countryside and eating all the very best that Tuscany had to offer. It truly was a once in a life time trip that had them happily sharing the stories for years afterwards.
Often described as having a dry, sarcastic humour , Gary had people on their toes more often than not. He was often seen as serious though that wasn’t who he truly was. Gary loved a good laugh. And for those who were close to him, they knew he was actually a big softy with a gentle heart. Through the years, he was a loving and supportive dad that gave great hugs and pushed his children to not settle for less. He loved seeing his children and grandchildren flourish in life and took pride in their accomplishments. He enjoyed seeing them partake in their beloved sports and listening to them talk about their day, and he wouldn’t be their Gramps if he didn’t tease them a little. He was also a devoted father to his and Brenda’s miniature dachshund, Mele. Sadly, Mele predeceased Gary by a year with her own battle with cancer. But, it gives us great joy and peace knowing that Mele was there to greet her Daddy when he was ready to pass.
Gary is survived by his wife Brenda and two children, Lindsey (Ryan), Jon (Barby) and stepdaughter, Janelle and their families. Gary is survived by eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Gary is also survived by his sister, Sherrie (David). As well, he is survived by his many nieces and nephews, and brother in-law, Bob. He is predeceased by his sister in-law and spouse, Bonnie and Robert Dean, in law’s Sam and Evangeline Sebastiano and his parents, Henri and Cynthia Wall.
Gary will be sorely missed as a source of laughter, sage advice and a pillar for his family. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the new cancer centre at NRGH. Gary was so appreciative of the nurses and doctors who provided care for him these last two years and would love to see a new facility dedicated to optimal patient care and comfort for patients, their families and the care staff.
