Miriam “Dian” Derbyshire passed away peacefully on April 23rd, 2024, with her husband Tom, daughter Janice, and son-in-law Kelly by her side after courageously fighting cancer since 2020. Dian was born and raised in Nanaimo, and lived her life in Cedar with her family where she loved gardening, quilting and cross stitching. She loved going camping with her family and friends, and was Tom’s favourite hunting and fishing partner. Dian loved her grandchildren deeply. Sarah (Evan), Malcolm (Ashley), Matthew (Max), Thomas and Rodney (Ashley) were her pride and joy.
Dian and the family thank Dr. Steve Kulla and all of the nurses at the Nanaimo Cancer Clinic for their amazing compassion and care. The family would also like to thank Maria and staff at Chase River Pharmasave who provided helpful support and care throughout this trying time. While Dian’s time at Cowichan Hospice House was short, the nurses’ and volunteers’ care went above and beyond in making sure that she was comfortable and cared for.
In keeping with Dian’s wishes, there will be no service or celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the BC Cancer Foundation or Cowichan Hospice House in Dian’s name.
