Norene Ann Oliver (Johnson) born July 10, 1956, of Nanaimo, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, at Dufferin Place in Nanaimo.
Norene is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Marv, whom she always referred to as “her guy”, her daughter Sheena (Richard) and their three children, Nathan, Amber and Grace of Nanaimo and her stepdaughter, Angie, of Victoria.
Norene was born in Edmonton to (pre- deceased) parents Ernest Johnson and Shirley Dean, and has two surviving brothers, Grant (Mint) and Garth (Betulia). She was Aunt to Cristel and Andrew.
She was the very best of friends with Sharon and had a 55-year friendship with her close friend Connie of Edmonton.
Norene worked for Edmonton Transit until she moved to Nanaimo and continued her career with Nanaimo Transit (where she was known as Eddy) until she retired in 2016.
Norene enjoyed music, specifically the Beatles, camping and nature. She loved the ocean and beach combing, especially searching for sea glass. She was a collector of many things and had anything and everything prepared for whatever she was doing “Justin” case anyone needed anything.
Norene was extremely kind and generous, always gifting things to those she loved and often to people she didn’t know. She carried hard candies in her pocket to offer to everyone.
She was a wonderful and loving friend to so many and left an imprint on the hearts of everyone she met. She will be forever missed.
Norene may have left the earthly world, but she will always be present spiritually.
In lieu of a service or celebration of life, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Many thanks to the staff at Dufferin Place for the kindness and caring they provided during Norene’s last two months.
