Peter was born on 29 October 1936, to Fred and Kathleen Sharples in Victoria. He grew up with a love of cars & hot rods and spent most of his life building & repairing his own, or others’ vehicles.
Peter joined the Air Force in 1956. After a short time in Canada, he was posted to the European Command and served in Italy and Germany. Peter married his high school sweetheart Roberta Goldie in Germany and went on to have two daughters; Susan, born in Germany and Linda, born in Italy. After 8 years they adopted a son, Michael. He was a devoted father.
Upon his return to Canada he was posted to Comox, arming the CF101B Voodoo fighter aircraft. After serving his time in the military, the family set up home in Nanaimo and he retired from Sears in 1996. He was a man who could fix anything and was always helping someone else out. He went back to school at age 50 and completed his GED.
He spent the great majority of his retirement building and restoring any and every make & model of car, quite literally from the ground up. He loved dancing, traveling, inventing & building things, boating, fishing & hunting.
He moved to Parksville & married Irene and they enjoyed many happy years together.
Peter was predeceased by his first wife Roberta (2006) and daughter Susan Meeks (2019) and brother Jim (2019). He will be very sadly missed by his loving wife Irene, daughter Linda (Murray) and son Mike (Nicole), stepdaughter Trina, her sons, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
