Rhys John Edwards

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden, tragic passing of our dear son, Rhys John Edwards on Sunday November 2nd, 2025, at the age of 18. Born August 30th, 2007, in Nanaimo, Rhys filled our lives with love from the moment he came into the world and touched so many more in the short time he was with us.

Adventurous, mischievous and sporty from the moment he could walk, Rhys was always on the move -exploring, playing every sport imaginable and hanging out, having fun with friends -always with that beautiful, cheeky smile of his! Rhys was a fun loving, caring, generous person who could light up the room with his smile. He made it his mission in life to cheer up anyone that needed it.

Rhys had a rare talent that could not be coached in a child. He played every sport he was given the opportunity to try, always giving it his all. He was known for being a work horse (Rhys the Beast!) on the field/ floor and for his camaraderie with teammates and the opposition. You could be his enemy on the floor, but once the whistle blew and the game was over, he’d be the first to shake hands, say good game and have a laugh with you. No hard feelings! He was about to follow his dream of playing college field lacrosse. He had been accepted into the University of New England (Maine, USA) to study sport management and leadership and was looking forward to a start date of January 2026.

Steven, Helen and Michael, along with the rest of family wishes to thank all those who have helped us in the last few weeks. Your love and support have meant the world to us and given us strength. The memorial service will be held at Yates Memorial Services, Errington on Thursday November 20th, 2025, at 12pm. Family and close friends are welcome and appreciated. After the memorial service, all others are welcome at The Rocking Horse Pub, 2038 Rocking Horse Place, Nanoose Bay. (Children welcome)

There will a celebration of life for Rhys -open invitation to everyone to everyone who knew him, to come and share stories/ memories, and wear a sports team jersey as a fitting tribute to a wonderful athlete gone too soon. Details of this to be confirmed and sent out soon.
