OBITUARY

Richard Ernest Wilmer

28 September, 1953 – 26 June, 2026
IN THE CARE OF

First Memorial Funeral Services

Richard Ernest Wilmer passed away peacefully in his home on June 26th, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Galt, Ontario in 1953 to Lorne and Marie Wilmer, Rich grew up alongside his brother David and sister Janice. A skilled journeyman carpenter, he began his career in the family business alongside his father and brother. He went on to establish his own successful company, building beautiful custom homes on Vancouver Island. Later in life, Rich earned a certificate in counselling and worked with The Haven Institute, where he had the opportunity to travel abroad, a time he valued deeply.

Those who knew Rich knew a man who lived to the fullest. He loved to travel, whether on road trips across the Prairies or adventures throughout Asia. He was happiest on the open road with the wind at his back on his motorbike or at home with his devoted dog Ozzie by his side. Above all else, Rich cherished time with his family, especially the moments spent with his daughters and grandchildren.

Rich is survived by his former spouse and dear friend Terri; his daughters Colleen (Nick) and Gayla (Dave); and his beloved grandchildren Jack, Ben, Luke, Sam and Quinn. Rich leaves behind many dear friends who shared in his adventures, laughter, and countless good times over the years, especially his oldest and dearest friend, Patrick Trimble.

Among Rich's last words were, "I guess I'll never get to see the Canucks win the Cup," and "Beers are on me at the Landlubber." Even in his final days, his sense of humor never left him.

Rest in peace, Dad. We will miss you deeply and remember you always.
