Roselyn Cathryn Barbara (née Jaenisch) Mandalik

20 January, 1945 – 21 July, 2026
IN THE CARE OF

First Memorial Funeral Services

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roselyn Cathryn Barbara Mandalik (née Jaenisch), a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, nurse, and friend.

Roselyn was born January 20, 1945, in Jablonz, Czechoslovakia. During the Second World War, she lost her father and four brothers. In 1951, she and her mother, Henrietta, immigrated to Canada and began a new life on the East Coast, eventually settling in Powell River.

As a teenager, Roselyn moved to Nanaimo, where she met her soulmate, Frank. They married in 1964 and began their life together in Franklin River. They welcomed their sons, Arpad in 1966 and Christopher in 1968. The family later lived in Powell River before returning to Nanaimo in 1975.

Roselyn pursued her nursing career at Malaspina College and worked at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital until her retirement. Family was always at the centre of her life. She and Frank shared many wonderful years enjoying fishing, gardening, planting flowers, harvesting fruit, collecting rocks, and being involved with the Hungarian Cultural Society.

Roselyn endured the heartbreaking loss of her son Arpi in 2000 and her beloved husband Frank in 2005.

Through both losses, she found strength in her family and the memories they shared.

Her greatest joys were her grandsons, Karl, born in 2007, and Douglas, born in 2008. She treasured time with Chris and her grandsons and took great pride in watching them grow into young men.

Roselyn loved telling stories about her life, and her face would light up when others listened. Her strength, resilience, warmth, and love for her family will be remembered always.

Roselyn was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Henrietta Janisch; her husband, Frank Mandalik; and her son, Arpad Mandalik.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Christopher, grandsons Karl and Douglas, extended family, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 301 Machleary Street, Nanaimo.

Graveside burial will follow at Bowen Road Cemetery, 555 Bowen Road, Nanaimo.

A luncheon will be provided at the church following the burial.

Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever in our hearts.
