Roy Irvin Anderson was born in Fleming, SK on March 31, 1934 and passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, 3 days before his 91st birthday. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl Caldwell (Greg), son Gord Anderson (Cyndie) and grandchildren Lindsay (Matt, and their twins, Owen and Olivia) and Mark (Tatum), younger brother Wayne (Pam), stepchildren Janet, Dawn and Bill and their families, special friend Pauline and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, both his beautiful wives, Eunice and Elaine, his brother and best friend Ted, his older sister Betty, and his daughter-in-law Geri.
Dad joined the Royal Bank in 1953 and served them well in many locations across SK for nearly 40 years. He met and married the love of his life, Eunice, in North Battleford in 1957 and together they raised two children, Cheryl and Gord. Dad was always our biggest fan. No matter what activity or event we were participating in, Dad was very involved. He shared his strong faith, wisdom, and unconditional love with his family. He was a man of quiet strength and unwavering kindness.
Dad lived a full, active life, and continued to do so when he retired in 1991 and they moved to Nanaimo. His faith and church were always important to him and he served in many capacities at every church they attended. Music was always a big part of his life and was frequently heard in the house with Mom at the piano and Dad singing. He sang in choirs and played drums in various bands for community events.
Dad had a lifelong passion for sports. In his youth, he was an avid athlete, excelling in baseball and hockey. Dad loved to play hockey and reluctantly gave it up at 82. He curled every winter and won the BC Men's Masters Provincial Championship in 1997. Dad golfed regularly and was even able to get that once in a life time “hole in one”. He was always up for a good walk, believing that would cure whatever ailed you!
A couple years after our Mom died, he married Elaine and they enjoyed many more happy years together, spending time with family and friends and their close church community. They regularly traveled to Mexico and went on a variety of cruises.
Dad believed in building relationships and memories that would stand the test of time. His kindness, generosity and love for his family and friends will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
The highlight of his last couple years was frequent visits to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren in Calgary. Spending time with them always brought a special smile and a youthful twinkle to his eye.
A Celebration of Dad’s life will be held on May 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 1650 Waddington Road, Nanaimo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Palliative Care Unit at NRGH or to the Cancer Society. Dad was a gentleman who left a legacy of integrity, kindness and love. His gentle spirit and steady presence will be deeply missed.
