Shirley Gwendolyne Biggs

Shirley Gwendolyne Biggs passed away at Wexford Creek Seniors Community in Nanaimo, BC, on September 21, 2026, at the age of 102.

Born in London, Ontario, on January 9, 1924, Shirley lived in many exciting places before settling in Nanaimo with her beloved husband, James Murray “Mike” Biggs. Together, Shirley and Mike travelled internationally and shared many wonderful adventures.

A florist and talented artist, Shirley had a lifelong appreciation for beauty and a deep love of gardening. She especially enjoyed working with her hands in the soil. Her warmth, creativity, adventurous spirit, and generous love will be remembered by all who knew her.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Mike. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Susan Frances Walker and her husband, William W. Walker; Peter Murray Biggs, and his late wife, Carol Biggs; and Patricia Ann Sneyd and her husband, Rodney Ralph Sneyd. She also leaves her grandchildren, Kirsten Clayton, Meredith Hitchmough, William Walker, Alexander Sneyd, and Nicholas Sneyd, as well as her great-grandchildren, Reagan Clayton, Jonas Clayton, Nadia Clayton, Gerrad Hitchmough, Sadie Hitchmough, Vanessa Sneyd, and Liam Sneyd.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her family and close friends, who will cherish the many memories, stories, and adventures she leaves behind.
