Elizabeth “Betty” Jean Gartrell, 96, of Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Feb. 2, 2022 while at her care facility in Crystal River, Florida. Born in Bessemer, Alabama, she was a resident of Naples for 47 years coming from Florham Park, New Jersey. Throughout her career, she held a variety of different roles, including positions in retail management at both the Waikiki Shop in the Cove Inn and Tivoli Imports. She was an active member of the SW Florida community, taking part in the Naples Woman's Club, where she helped plan several philanthropic gatherings and events throughout the 1970's.
In Betty's later years, she enjoyed traveling, supporting the arts and keeping up with the latest fashions and trends. Always delighting in social activities, she joined the Red Hat Society, which amplified her style and provided a platform for her personality to shine.
She is preceded in death by: her husband Charles Gartrell, Sr, sister Doris “Dot” Dewberry, daughter Pamela Weiler, two sons William “Billy” Gartrell and Charles “Chuck” Gartrell, Jr. and granddaughter, Erin Danhi.
She is survived by: one daughter Veronica (Ernie) Vann; four grandchildren Heather (Nathan) Hilliard, Amy Carter, Ashley (Mike) Hildreth and Nicole Gartrell; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A private family gathering was held at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens.
