Sherri and I grew up together in Shore Acres,  in Cape Elizabeth. She was my very best friend for many years.
I got to spend many overnights at her home and she at mine, and we loved to play hide and seek either with my brothers, or with her brothers, during those overnights! I think we tore the house up pretty well, and our parents were kind enough to let us! Such fun!
Growing up, one of my very best memories is when we were 7 years old. We were in the second grade, and that was the year that we learned to use the school library!
After school hours, we would dress in our winter clothing and head down to “The Fort”. This was an area of Shore Acres that had not yet been developed and for us it was a very big play area in the woods.
One of us, I can’t remember who, started a game with the other by drawing bear claws in the snow that went on and on and on into the woods, and then we would tell the other that we saw a bear! Each of us knew this wasn’t true and  that we were just pretending, but then the next day or the other of us would run to the Fort early, and draw bear claws that were even bigger, and now had a hole in them to indicate a spike from the bear foot! We led each other on that entire winter knowing full well that it was pretend, but having the time of our lives!
By the way, we learned to draw  bear claws by taking out books from the library about bears. 😁What a great memory.
Sheree was always my first best friend, and always a kind friend. Even though we didn’t stay much in touch throughout the years, we held one another close to our hearts as friends. 
She was loved by everyone who knew her, and will be greatly missed.

My beautiful friend...even though we didn't see each other as much anymore our time together shines like a diamond in my heart. You were my mentor, my friend and my confidant. I loved you then and I love you now and I will love you forever. I can't believe that I won't see your face again until we meet in heaven, this I am sure we will do. Rest easy my friend. Dick, Ben, Sam, Caleb & Laurie, my heart goes out to you, my love and a wish for peace to you all.

 Good friends are rare treasures of life, difficult to find and impossible to replace. The world is a better place because of my friend. I am blessed to have had you in my life and I will surely miss you. I reached for a jar of tomatoes that we canned together, I can’t bring myself to open it.  I truly hope they will keep until we meet again.  🌱

Words can not express the loss of you, Sherri!  From our first meeting, a bond was formed.  From a business relationship, a friendship was born.  Our after hours conversations that encompassed family and pets and cabinets and life are forever etched in my heart.  Rest In Peace , my dear friend. Xoxo


I am saddened to hear of this loss of a true spirit. I knew Sherri years ago when we danced and worked together for a number of years at C of M in Gorham. I remember her fondly and smile when I think of her love of dance, theater, and all we shared during those happy years. It would not be Sherri if she didn't arrive at class with a full mug of coffee which she carried everywhere, ready to go and get at it!

I began as a babysitter for Ben Cook when he was 6 months old, and then Sherri and I became friends, and have been ever since. I babysat when the Cooks lived in Windham, and all three of the very active  boys were  in sleepers. I remember drinking coffee with Sherri at her kitchen table - Tasters Choice never tasted better... This became perked coffee when her brother Doug  gave her a large electric percolator  one Christmas after the family moved to the Farm in Buxton.  She always welcomed friends and family to her table at the Farm with a cup of coffee, or a cold drink...Sherri and I flew on the Concorde to London to shop for a week  in the fall of 1987, as a birthday present from Dick.  She called home every night to see how  Dick and the boys were holding up while having  a pot of coffee from room service. She could hardly bear to leave them - her family came first. Sherri was my birth coach when my daughter Livvie was born, and has come to her birthday parties since. We are thankful for the time she was here, and will miss her terribly.

Dick and family. Was so sincerely sorry to hear about Cheri’s passing. I so enjoyed our times together when life seemed to be uncomplicated. She had an infectious smile and warm heart welcoming all into her family. I remember sitting on a couch in your sitting room and up popped a Ferret between the cushions!  Bonfires in the back yard with a day of sledding. A half dozens runs at Sugarloaf before a break for Bloody Mary’s in the lodge. Times spent on the ocean in Maine sharing so much laughter. May you Rest In Peace dear friend. A forever faithful mom and companion earning you a special place in heaven.

Sherri deeply touched the hearts of all who knew her.  I have many fond memories visiting with the Cook family.  I admired her endless energy and devotion to her family and friends.  Her calm, gentle demeanor made all feel a welcomed part of the family.  A favorite aunt to all of my children, she will be painfully missed.  Much love to Dick, Katie, Ben, Sam, Caleb, and Doug.
