

On Sunday, December 6th, 2020 Dominic Colantonio, loving husband and father of six, passed away at the age of 83. Dominic was born on August 24th,1937 in Gissi, Italy to father Francesco and mother Filomena Colantonio. He was the youngest child of three with siblings Giuseppe and Adriana. As a young man of 16, Dominic immigrated to Chicago and worked as a tailor while going to school to learn English.
In 1955, he realized his dream of joining the US Air Force. Early in his career he was stationed in Rome, where he met his future wife Brigitte. They were married just a year later in 1965. It was in Rome they also welcomed their first son Robert. Dominic’s military career continued to take the family all over the world. First, Dominic was stationed in Arizona, where their second son Mario was born. Then, in 1967 he left his young family to serve his country in Vietnam. He reunited with his family in 1968 in Madrid, Spain, where their son Carlo and daughter Laura were born. In 1971, the family returned to Rome, where their daughter Claudia was born. Then, in 1974, they moved to Miami where they got their first taste of sunny Florida.
In 1977, the family moved to Germany where their daughter Silvia was born. While in Germany, Dominic retired from active duty as a Senior Master Seargent after 23 years of service. He continued his Air Force career for an additional 22 years as a civil servant until finally retiring to Bonita Springs, FL. There he spent his golden years enjoying the beach, playing tennis, going on long walks, tending to his garden, reading, and being part of Village Walk community life.
He leaves behind his wife Brigitte, his children, his sister Adriana, and his grandchildren Jonathan, Jennifer, Dominic Jr., Olivia, Enzo, Giuliana, Luca, Enya, Giuseppe, James, and Henry. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
