

Douglas Glen Miller was a modest man, quiet and observant in his ways. He was trustworthy and traditional in his approach to his life and in his relationships. He was tough-minded with the kind of "stick to it" attitude that earned the respect of all who knew him. He was also a man who was meticulous, carefully disciplined, and orderly in virtually everything he undertook. Realistic about life, he was always at the ready, prepared to take on responsibility.
Doug was born on December 16, 1989 at St. Josephs Hospital in Kirkwood, MO. He was the son of Curt & Doreen Miller. Doug grew up in St. Louis, Mo and Naples, FL.
Doug was raised with one sibling. He had one older sister Vicki. Doug was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Doug had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Doug was an active child who took part in football, baseball, soccer and basketball. In his spare time he liked play video games and any kind of sports. Doug's memorable achievements included Junior Honor Society. However, to Doug, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
A typical teenager, Doug had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Gulf Coast High School in 2008. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. His favorite class in high school was Marketing. The teacher he enjoyed learning from the most was Mr. Bell. He was on the Freshman and Senior Homecoming Court as well as a member of the National Honor Society.
Doug enjoyed his college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied them, but Doug was able to manage the balancing act. Doug was working on his marketing degree at Florida State University. His favorite courses were in Marketing and Business. Doug was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and also enjoyed working as a referee for intramural sports.
Always considered a "good" friend to those he knew, Doug enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, some of his best friends were Eric and Ryan Edelmann, Katie Wilke, Clayton and Brian. He became friends with Andrew Dunko, Chris Howland, Devin Lawson, Leo Cruz, Matt Dunbar, Crystal Parr, Mitch Swanson, John Shelton and others too numerous to name.
Doug enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were playing sports, watching sports, playing video games and girls. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Doug found pleasure in sports. In high school, Doug played Football, Track and Field and Wrestling. In his college years, Doug continued to stay active by playing intramural sports with his favorites being flag football, softball and basketball. Doug was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. His favorite sports to watch were football, college basketball and baseball.
Throughout his life, Doug was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. In high school, Doug was a member of the National Honor Society. In college, Doug joined the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He also was a Florida State Booster member.
Doug's faith was important to him. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.
Doug enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included Greece, various cruises, Bahamas, Lake of the Ozarks, New York City, and Disney World.
Doug was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was Coco, an all american dog. They were best friends for 13 years.
Doug passed away on November 25, 2010 at North Collier Hospital, Naples, FL. Doug passed away from bacterial meningitis which came upon him very quickly. He is survived by his parents, Curt and Doreen, and his sister, Vicki. Services were held at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Naples, FL.
Simply stated, Doug was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Doug leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Douglas Glen Miller.
