

He was born February 9, 1929 in Mount Kisco, NY to the late Joseph Garland and LaBelle Pendegar.
He was raised in Armonk, NY. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma he entered the Air Force where he piloted B-29s doing weather recon out of Hawaii. He left the military in 1954 to join his father in the family business, Modern Home Co, in Greenwich, CT. In 1964, he and his brother, Al, founded Garland and Garland Marine Construction in Naples. He continued to work at Garland and Garland until a month before his death.
He loved to travel. With his beloved wife, Wanda, he visited every state in the US, often flying planes that he and brother, Al, owned. His favorite was the Beechcraft Staggerwing. He and Wanda also traveled to many international locations. With his brother, Al and friends there were motorcycle trips to various places around the country. And with his brothers and other family members, he cruised the Panama Canal, toured Germany, and traveled to his father’s original hometown in Italy.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and John Terhar; grandsons Steven, Michael, and Daniel; great-grandchildren Joseph, Oliver, Winnie, and Aurora; and brother Al.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda; his daughter, Deborah; and his brother, Ted.
Viewing will be Friday, September 26, 2025 from 10 am to noon. The services will follow at noon at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave, Naples, FL 34108.
