Lerlean was a beloved long-time music teacher in Saugus Public Schools in the ’60s, 70s and ’80s. She was also a lifelong lover of classical and English Folk Music and a gifted pianist. She was active in the music scenes of the North Shore of Boston and the Fort Myers area as a member of various community choirs, folk groups and a part-time organist/piano player at both St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Malden, MA and Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Myers, FL. Lerlean was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Lowell (Bachelor of Music Education) and Saugus High School.
Although Lerlean’s health and memory was failing for years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled, as her joy for life and humour kept her spirits up throughout her difficult illness.
Lerlean is survived by her son Jonathan (Vancouver, Canada), granddaughter Mellissa (Delaware, OH), grandson Jamie (Fostoria, OH), and eight great-grandchildren. A small burial ceremony took place with immediate family members on the 14th of April 2022 and a Memorial Service will take place in Boston Area in early September. Please reach out to family members for information. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Dementia Society of America.
