Marie Louise (Greene) Goodwin, 78, most recently of Wheaton, Illinois, peacefully passed away on December 6, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She had lived with ovarian cancer since 2008, and was active in both breast and ovarian cancer support groups, sharing her compassion for fellow sufferers. Prior to moving to Wheaton to be closer to family upon the death of her husband, Don, in 2012, Louise and Don enjoyed life in Naples, Florida boating, golfing, traveling the world, spending time with family and friends and volunteering in the community.
Above all, Louise was a gracious woman with a heart for her family and friends, and for supporting others in need. She cherished her relationships with her children and grandchildren. Whether it be exchanging hand-written letters with a grandchild, planning fun opportunities together on East Coast beaches, enjoying the uplifting music and messages in a musical or attending shows and sporting events her grandchildren were in, Louise lover her time with family. Her involvement with support groups granted her many new and treasured friendships, in addition to the many friendships she savored throughout her life. She also had a heart for the safety, health and welfare of children living in dysfunctional homes, and she and Don served as court-appointed guardians for many children. Always grateful for the service of local Fire Fighters and American troops serving abroad, she was known to send care packages to remind them that they were appreciated.
Louise was born and raised in Springfield, Pennsylvania. Shortly after high school graduation she became a flight attendant based in New York City with American Airlines. This afforded her the opportunity to explore many different cities. However, after a year or so, the love bug won over the travel bug and she and Don were married on August 20, 1960 in her hometown. They raised three children in the Washington, DC area. Years later, Louise picked up where she left off and worked in the travel field, enjoying international travel to Russia, Egypt, China, and Europe, among others.
Louise is survived by her son Donald (Felice) and daughters Linda Wood (Matthew) and Karen Goyak (Kevin), and grandchildren Audrey, Ben, Oliver, Jeremy, Elle, Rebecca, Abigail, Emily, Annabel, Olivia and Grace. She is greatly missed.
