A woman of true adventure and great curiosity has passed away in Fort Lauderdale Florida on June 7, 2014. Marjorie Theresa Tello (Anzalone maiden name) died at 96 years and one day after a short illness. Marjorie was the youngest of 7 brothers and sisters. Marjorie married her husband Joseph F Tello in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 12, 1941. After Joe finished his military service during WWII the Tello’s grew tired of the cold winters of the North and they set their sights on building a life in South Florida. In the late 1950’s with their young son Stephen they made the move to Miami. Joe Tello opened an appliance store in North Dade and became an active part of the business and civic community. As she became more interested in her art Marjorie began signing her art work as Terry Tello.
In the early 1970's Terry and Joe moved to West Palm Beach to sell real estate in the growing market there. In 1980 their most favorite Florida city created an opportunity for them. The expanding West coast of Florida became one of their favorite spots and moved to Naples to be a part of it. They remained there for over 30 years. Both Terry and Joe were active in community events and developed a great network of friends. Terry and Joe spent many nights at The Philharmonic Center for The Arts in Naples and Terry volunteered as a docent for many art related activities. Her husband Joseph passed away in July of 1993, but Terry carried on in Naples Florida with her lifelong interests in music and art. She was an avid bridge player and was formidable opponent on the card table. Her passion for travel took her around the world which included China and Israel when she was in her 80's.
Terry served in the American Theatre Wing in Washington, D.C. during WWII. Over the years Terry donated generous amounts of time to Catholic Church projects, and hospital volunteer groups. Terry lived a rich and vibrant life and she would tell you she did not miss one thing she wanted to experience.
Terry or Margie as they called her leaves a large family of devoted nieces and nephews who live in New England. Terry will be interred with husband Joseph of 52 years at Naples Memorial Gardens. Terry’s grandchildren, family and friends will gather in January 2015 in Naples Florida to celebrate her remarkable life and relive all the wonderful adventures of Terry and Joe. Details of that celebration will be announced in the near future.
Stephen and Caroline and the Tello family thank the staff at Williamsburg Landing over the past several years and most recently Holy Cross Hospital and Hospice Fort Lauderdale for their care in the final days.
There will be a memorial book set up on line by Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens for you to visit and make comments by the end of the week. www.hodgesfhatnaplesmg.com
