Mary lived in many places growing up as her father, Captain Clement L. Garner (Mary Clark), was posted to many countries while with the US Coast and Geodetic Survey (NOAA).
Graduating high school in DC, Mary is a 1938 graduate of the University of Maryland, a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, president her senior year.
Previously she and Charlie lived in Cincinnati, OH and Richmond, VA.
A devoted wife and mother, Mary was pre-deceased by her husband of 71 years, and her sister Alice G. Upchurch. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Wantz of Naples and Nancy Johnson (Byron) of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Matthew Johnson (Alejandra) of Sugar Land, TX, Ginger Duke (Mike) of Arlington, VA, Evan Sopko (Kory) of Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren, Cristian and Sebastian Johnson and Catherine Duke.
A funeral service will be conducted later. Donations may be made to the Moorings Park Foundation or Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
