Molly Gertrude (Trew) Henning passed away on December 2, 2023 after ninety years of life. She was born on April 21, 1933 in Ithaca, NY. She was the only girl and the second youngest child of five born to parents Alfred Earnest and Gertrude Hough Trew.
Molly resided in Bonita Springs nearly all of her life. She moved there with her parents and siblings when she was three years old and lived there until two years ago when she moved to Vero Beach, FL, to be closer to family.
Before graduating from Fort Myers High School in 1951, she married Herb Henning on November 19, 1950, formalizing their commitment to each other before he was shipped overseas to fight in the Korean War. They became the proud parents of son, Gerald, in 1953, and daughter, Cathy, in 1956.
Molly was a devoted wife and mother, staunchly supporting her husband and her children in their endeavors and aspirations. She had a talent for understanding the needs of children, communicating with them, and nurturing their development. When her own children were more independent and self-sufficient, she contributed to the development of other children in preschool and middle school as a teacher’s assistant. One former student wrote a letter thanking her, saying, "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have stayed in school and graduated."
Molly enhanced the lives of others. She generously hosted large family gatherings, and she was so welcoming and supportive to her children’s friends that many thought of her as their second mom.
Molly was also a talented artist, winning awards in local art show competitions with her paintings that captured the beauty of Floridian nature.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, Molly is survived by her son, Gerald Henning (Anna Winslow), and their children, Paul and Leslie, of Rockville, MD; daughter, Cathy (Ric) Schreiber, and their son, Alex (Rachel) Alderman, and their children, Benjamin and Holland, of Vero Beach, FL; brother, Donald Trew of Bonita Springs, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
May her memory continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched.
A graveside service for Molly will be held Monday, December 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave N, Naples, FL 34108.
