OBITUARY

Nancy Kay (Walters) Winemiller

24 October, 1945 – 4 September, 2023
IN THE CARE OF

Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens

Nancy Kay (Walters) Winemiller was born in Sullivan, Indiana on October 24th 1945. After a long battle with metastatic breast cancer, she passed from this earth on September 4, 2023.

Kay had a beautiful and kind soul and it was always reflected in her smiling hazel eyes. She grew up in small-town Indiana, mostly in Carlisle which she loved and claimed as her hometown. At 17 she married the love of her life, James D. Winemiller. James and Kay made their way through life together for 59 years – residing first in Vincennes and Bloomington, then Honolulu and Indianapolis, and finally in Naples, FL.

Kay returned as an adult student to Butler University and graduated with an Interior Design degree. For several years she worked at Historic Landmarks Foundation and later at Conner Prairie as a historical researcher, a passion she later applied to her own family genealogy work. She was a talented artist and crafter who may have loved starting a new project a bit more than finishing an old one. She was a great cook and a loving friend. She loved to travel, but not quite as much as her husband! Kay was a member of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church.

For all of her talents and passions, Kay was most devoted to her family. She was an amazing mom to Nancy and later to son-in-law Mike - and the most loving and devoted Grandma to Alex – and we will hold her love in our hearts always.

She is survived by Nancy, Mike, and Alex and was preceded in death by James. Kay is also survived by her sister Lynn Squires and her sister-in-law Mary Winemiller.

There will be a private graveside service for family and close friends in Oaktown Indiana later this month.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Vincennes University Foundation in her memory.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hodgesfhatnaplesmg.com for the Winemiller family.
