Paul was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in New Jersey, where he met his wife, Patricia “Pat”, while working as a summer lifeguard at The Belvedere pool in Keansburg. After falling head over heels in love at first sight, they married and began their own family where they spent many happy years at the Jersey Shore surrounded by friends and family.
A true Renaissance man, he had a variety of professional accomplishments in his younger years including band manager, fitness model, small business owner, attorney, teacher, and child protection investigator for the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services.
In 1994, he suffered a massive stroke which he fought his way back to recovery from through his great tenacity and will along with the support of his always dedicated wife, Pat, who made every effort possible to ensure he had the best care and rehabilitation. Ultimately, this experience would be the legacy of his later years as he was determined to live a life of independence and dignity without letting any of his disabilities define or limit him.
He had a great love of learning and the arts, especially music, film, and writing as it was one of his hobbies. He had the best sense of humor and was a master in the kitchen. His own personal version of heaven was relaxing in a chair and listening to live music while drinking a scotch.
Lovingly known as “Pops”, he is reunited with his beloved wife, Pat, as well as brother Edward and parents William and Margaret (Ryan) Moroney in Heaven. He is survived by his four daughters, who were his pride and joy, and their spouses Kerry (Moroney) and James White, Tara Moroney, Bridget Moroney and Kristin Rougeau, and Caitlin Moroney and David Acker, his two grandsons Brendan and Kyle White, his dear sister Margaret “Peggy” (Moroney) and her husband Charles “Wright” Curchin, his always admired brother William “Tom” Moroney, and a whole group of nieces and nephews who have always said he was one of their most favorite uncles.
Due to the current circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will not be a formal service at this time.
