Ramona Cornell Foulke passed away on February 27, 2016 at Bentley Village. She was born in Groton, Massachusetts on April 27,1926 to John E. and Norma A. Cornell. She spent her youth in Buffalo, New York before her family returned to their roots in Chicago when she was sixteen years old. Her great grandfather, Paul Cornell is known in Chicago as the founder of the Hyde Park neighborhood in the 1850s. Ramona graduated from Principia College, Elsah, Illinois where she met her future husband Edward. There were married in 1950 and raised their family of three children in suburban Wilmette, Illinois. Edward had an investment management career in Chicago.
In addition to her role as a parent she worked in marketing for Field Enterprises, publishers of World Book Encyclopedia and Childcraft, retail sales at Marshall Fields Department store and as a property manager of a lakefront condominium building.
Ramona was active in civic services serving on the Centennial commission for the Village of Wilmette, Illinois. She also was a co-leader of a privately financed experimental head-start type program on Chicago’s West side. Ramona was an active member of the League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) in both Wilmette and Naples. She also had a serious interest in family genealogy and was a member of the Mayflower Society. One of Ramona’s great pleasures was their cottage in Williams Bay on Geneva Lake, WI. She also enjoyed a wide diversity of International travel.
She is survived by her husband, Edward D. Foulke, a resident of Bentley Village. She also is survived by her daughters, Caroline Foulke Wettersten and Katherine Cornell Foulke, both of whom reside in Chicago, and her brother, John E. Cornell III, a resident of The Villages here in Florida. She has three grandchildren; Amy Elizabeth Wettersten, Bradley Reid Wettersten, and Charles Douglas Wettersten, all residents of Chicago. She has one great grandson, Devin Bradley.
She was pre-deceased by her parents and her son, Douglas Edward Foulke.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
