Robert "Bob" Bennis, 83, of Naples, FL, passed away Friday the 25th of March. He was born in Germantown, PA on July 15, 1932 and lived in Glen Mills, PA for a good portion of his life. He eventually settled down to retire in Naples, FL after his many travel exploits.
Bob graduated from La Salle College High School and briefly attended the University of Pennsylvania before joining the Marine Corps. He worked at a family run building & oil supply business early in his career. After selling the business, Bob branched out into the wholesale trade of supplying tools to the masonry and concrete industries throughout a large part of the United States. He eventually broke off on his own to continue the same thing in the Mid-Atlantic area. Look around at any house or building and there is a good chance that Bob had a hand in the tools behind the contractor that built the structure.
Bob had a passion for the game of squash and developed a core group of tight knit friends that has remained in touch even after his retirement from the game. Bob's love of Ireland and the friends he made there, made the country his second home for many years. His pastime was spent dipping a line in every stream, pond, ocean or body of water he could find anywhere he traveled.
He married Elizabeth on October 21, 1961. He is survived by his children, Marybeth (Dominique) McAree, Robert Anthony Bennis, James Carville Bennis and Christopher Bennis; grandchildren, Nicolas Patrick McAree and Brandon Richard. His brothers and sisters were Edward F. Bennis, Marie C. Pyne, Kathleen L. Faunce and David A. Bennis.
Services are being held at the convenience of the family. A memorial to celebrate Bob's life to be conducted at a later date.
