Rosemary Cirando Coyne passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, at her home in Naples, Florida, with her beloved husband, Mike Coyne, by her side. Her sparkling smile and boundless joy were noticeable to everyone she met. She will be deeply missed.
Born on November 23, 1938, in Syracuse, New York, the only child of Dominic and Mary (Aragoni) Cirando, Rosemary grew up in a loving home filled with cousins, extended family and friends, who would gather for her mother’s delicious home-cooked Italian meals and desserts.
Rosemary’s Catholic faith was central to her life. She was devoted to her alma maters, and to the religious Sisters that sustained them. After attending The Convent School, established by the Sisters of the Third Franciscan Order, in Syracuse, New York, she graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, founded by the Sisters of Providence in Terra Haute, Indiana. Rosemary also developed a special fondness for the teaching work of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
In 1959, one week after her college graduation, she met her future husband on a blind date and, within months, they became engaged. Following their marriage on September 3, 1960, they moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where Rosemary worked as a primary teacher at Belle View Elementary School in Fairfax County. She enchanted her young students with her love for learning and quickly became their favorite teacher.
After nearly 40 years in Virginia, in 2000, Rosemary and Mike retired to Pelican Bay. Though she fought a decades-long battle with multiple myeloma with total acceptance, Rosemary never let her health dampen her enthusiasm for travel, friends and life in general.
A memorial Mass in Rosemary’s honor is scheduled for September 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint William Catholic Church located at 601 Seagate Drive in Naples. It will be live streamed at: https://www.youtube.com/live/sZNCjLWretU. She will be inurned at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery.
Rosemary’s family is grateful for the care provided by Avow Hospice, Inc. in the final month of her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, in Ann Arbor, Michigan or Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana.
