Stephen Jones

He was born on November 5, 1949 in Elmira, New York , son of Sidney C. Jones and Ann Haughey. He attended Dryden Central School, graduated from Ithaca College and completed his Masters Degree in Music Performance at Temple University. His first career was in teaching but he retired from Edward Jones after 17 years as a financial advisor. In 1994 he married Doris Wells in Homer, New York.

Stephen was a member of the Cortland Rotary Club, served on the Board of Directors for Cortland Repertory Theater, and was a member of Toastmasters International. He received several awards from his company including a Region 157 Hall of Fame Award in recognition of his support, loyalty, and commitment. He found it rewarding to assist others with planning a sound financial future and always encouraged young people to “ start early”.

Although his career was in the financial world, he had great passion for music and the arts. Upon moving to Florida he was a member of the Naples Philharmonic Chorale for several years. Over the years he shared his musical talents in concerts giving tribute to others and helped raise money for many charities including Toys for Tots, Abused Women and Children, the S.P.C.A. , and Homer Center for the Arts.

Stephen enjoyed tennis and golf in his retirement along with travel. Trips included visits to more than 15 countries. He loved learning about other cultures and people and couldn’t pass up a visit to a museum.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents and Norman and Patricia Jones (uncle and aunt). He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughter Heather Jones (Brian Belcher); son Stephen Jones (Keri), sister Susan Jones, step children Andrew and Melissa Wells; and three grandchildren-Isabella, Matthew, and Viola.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday February 23rd at Hodges Funeral Home at Memorial Gardens 525 111th Ave. N Naples, Florida 34108. Gathering at 10:30 AM and service at 11:30 AM.
