Alida “Lee” Zollinger, 82, earned her eternal reward on Friday, April 2, 2021. Lee was born an only child in Chicago, IL to Elvera and Thomas Gorman. Lee married John “Jack” J. Zollinger, III from New Orleans in 1966. Jack was one of six children and she found herself in a very big family which she embraced and called her own.
Lee owned and operated Antiques Magazine, a shop in the 2000 Block of Magazine Street specializing in antique lighting for over 26 years. Lee and Jack received much joy traveling the South looking for treasure and interacting with customers over the many years. She was a fixture in the community and a member of the Magazine Street Merchant’s for all those years. Lee was a self-proclaimed restaurant critic and often invited people from out of town to dine with her at Commander’s. Lee enjoyed life and valued friendships. Lee was known to speak her mind, as well as a generous caring person founded in faith.
Lee was an active member in St. Pius X parish when her children were growing up, and a member of St. Mary’s Assumption parish for the last 25 years. She was very devoted to the cause of and the National Shrine of the Blessed Francis X. Seelos.
Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Elvera Vandenbroucke Gorman and Thomas Hilary Gorman, and her husband, John J. Zollinger, III. Lee is survived by her son, John J Zollinger, IV, (Tina), and her two daughters, Hilary Huck (Lloyd) and Alida Olson (John); and eight grandchildren, Zoe Zollinger, John “Jake” J. Zollinger, V, Quincy Zollinger, Lydia Huck, Zachary Huck, Meredith Huck, Olivia Olson, and Anders Olson.
The family would like to thank the superior staff at The Carol Condominium. We would also like to thank Lee’s caregivers over the past year, providing companionship, quality and comfort care and they became part of our family.
