It is with deep sadness and enduring love that we announce the passing of America Otero Livaudais, aged 85, on October 26, 2024. A cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, America touched the lives of everyone she met with great interest and enthusiasm, and affection.
Born on November 14, 1938 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, America was born to Berta and Benigno Otero. She grew up in San Pedro Sula with her mother Berta and her stepfather Abel Mayes, and after teaching in Honduras, she came to the United States where she taught languages to children.
America met the love of her life, Jerome and they shared 63 years of marriage before her passing. Together, they left New Orleans to live abroad in Japan, Seattle, Germany - taking full advantage to travel extensively.
She was known for her enthusiasm and wide ranging interests. Her passion for people, culture, language and travel was evident in everything she did, and she was happiest when surrounded by her family.
America will be deeply missed by her children: Gerard and his wife Felicitas, and Steven and his wife Becky. Her legacy also lives on in her 3 grandchildren, Mia, Luke and Nathan and 3 great-grandchildren, Rumi, Ryder and Rafa who will forever carry her legacy. She is also survived by her siblings, Victor-Hugo, Sandra and Quique.
Funeral services will take place on October 31, 2024 at 2 pm with visitation at noon, Mass at 2 pm. occuring at Lake Lawn Cemetery, Metairie, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in America's honor to St. Clement of Rome Parish.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that America is reunited with her beloved father and mother, her brothers Humberto and Jorge, and those who have gone before her. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
