Anthony Joseph Matranga, Jr.

Anthony (Tony) Joseph Matranga, Jr., born August 17, 1949 passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2024 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s dementia. He is preceded in death by his parents Anthony Joseph Matranga and Doris Hoerner Matranga and sister Patricia Matranga O’Neil.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Gerry Farrell Matranga; his daughter Kristianne Elizabeth Matranga, and his son Marc Anthony Matranga (Shellie). “Grumps” adored his four grandchildren:

Emily Nicole Dubuc, Abbigail Grace Matranga, Griffin Landry Matranga and Collins Mae Matranga. He is also survived by his sister Darlene Matranga Olano (Richard).

Tony attended De La Salle High School and then received a BS and Master’s in Accounting from UNO. He furthered his education with a Master’s in Business Administration from UNO.

Growing up Tony played the drums for the Sixth Edition, and fished regularly with his friends Roddy and Larry, played tennis, ran many 5k races and took great pride in caring for his home and lawn. Tony was a Vietnam Veteran.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 10:30 am - 12 pm and the funeral mass at 12 pm at St. Angela Merici Church, 835 Melody Drive, Metairie on Monday, February 5, 2024. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
