

Barbara Barbier Dildy, age 93, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Beloved wife of Gary Andrew Dildy, Jr., M.D. for 68 years and beloved mother of Gary Andrew Dildy, III, M.D., David Joseph Dildy (Rita), John Robert Dildy (Marigny), and Michael James Dildy (Nina). Also survived by grandchildren Andrew Dildy, Sophie Dildy, Anna Dildy, James Dildy, and Caroline Dildy, as well as her Barbier cousins. Barbara was born on May 12, 1933, at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans. Daughter of the late Joseph J. Barbier and Gladys Hinshelwood Barbier and predeceased by her cousins August J. Barbier, Jr. and Patricia Barbier Simmons. Barbara graduated from St. Mary's Dominican High School in 1951 and received a Bachelor of Science from LSU in 1955 and a Master of Education from Loyola University in 1958. Barbara participated in several organizations, including Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, Orleans Parish Medical Society Auxiliary, and Faculty Wives Club of the LSU Health Sciences Center. Barbara was an active parishioner at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mandeville for over 25 years, serving as Eucharistic Minister, Youth Faith Formation Educator, and Handbell Choir member. She often remarked that her greatest blessings were her joyful relationships with family, the education of her children and grandchildren, and devotion to her Catholic faith. As an educator, she had a profound influence on her sons’ respective educational endeavors. The family expresses special gratitude to caregivers Sharon Porter and Ruthie Cambre, as well as the staff of The Blake at Colonial Club. Visitation will be at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6367 Saint Charles Avenue in New Orleans on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at noon, which will also be accessible via livestream at https://www.youtube.com/c/HNJChurchNewOrleans . A private interment will follow at Saint Joseph Abbey Cemetery, Saint Benedict, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Holy Name of Jesus Parish and School Capital Campaign or Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans.
