Beverly Jane Sanderfer Dalton passed away on February 22, 2024 at the age of 86. Born in Freeport, Texas on November 4, 1937, she was the only child of Zora Cude Sanderfer and Thomas Walter Sanderfer. Beverly grew up in Freeport and attended Freeport High School until Freeport Sulphur Company transferred the family to Houma, Louisiana. She graduated from Terrebonne High School as Valedictorian and received an academic scholarship to attend Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in zoology.
During her time at Tulane, Beverly was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi and on a fateful blind date to a Tulane football game, met the love of her life, Joseph Dalton. They married shortly after his graduation from college and began their lifelong partnership in raising a family while having many adventures along the way.
Beverly stayed at home to raise her two daughters before deciding to enter the workforce. While living in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, she embarked on a career in banking, starting as a teller. She completed the management trainee program, and, before moving to Odessa, Texas, had climbed the ladder to manager of the main office as a VP of BayBank Valley Trust Co. After the move to Texas, Beverly put her financial skills to good use when she and Joe started their business and built Cardinal Industries into a successful company. After 30 years in the Permian Basin, they sold the business and retired back to Louisiana in 2012.
Beverly and Joe were married for 63 years before his passing. She was a terrific mom, calm and caring and dispensing advice only when asked! She was a wonderful Grammy/Mimi to her grandchildren and loved them with all her heart. Her favorite times were spent on the Florida Gulf Coast every summer with all the family. It was truly her happy place.
Beverly was an avid reader, a fantastic Girl Scout Troop leader, accomplished in needlepoint, and an amazing baker. She spent her childhood summers at Camp Arrowhead for Girls in Hunt, Texas, which became a tradition carried on by her daughters and granddaughters. Beverly always had time to listen to those who needed a shoulder to cry on, and she could talk to anyone!
Beverly’s last years were spent at Lambeth House where she was always in good spirits. The family is so grateful for the wonderful care she received from the staff at Saint Anna’s unit.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Leonidas Dalton, III, and her parents. She is survived by her daughters, Carey Dalton Ebert (David) and Judith Dalton Acomb (Ryan); grandchildren, Catherine Acomb Richardson (Scott), Taylor Ebert Martin (Joe), Elizabeth Acomb Crosby (Billy), Joseph Ryan Acomb (Michaela), Paige Ebert Lawson (Tyler), and Mary Dalton Acomb; and her great grandson, Teddy Crosby. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, June Dalton Bennett, and her children David Dalton Bennett and Julie Bennett Monsey.
