Beverly Dumestre Watts

Beverly Dumestre Hughes Watts, age 102, passed away at Poydras Home, New Orleans, Louisiana, on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

Beverly was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, Dr. Lynn Burk Hughes, her later in life husband of 10 years, Curtis Watts; her son, Lynn Burk Hughes, Jr.; her grandson, William Scott Floyd; her parents, Alexis Cornelius Dumestre and Edna Aucoin Dumestre; and her siblings, Clifford Dumestre (Elizabeth), Marjorie Dumestre (William), Dorothy Dumestre, and A.C. Dumestre (Mary Lou) of Houston.

Beverly is survived by her two daughters, Ann Hughes Faulk and Sherri Hughes Schaeffer (Philip); her grandchildren, Charles Towns, Beverly Towns, Dr. Peter (Dr. Elizabeth) Towns, Meghan Towns Bernard, Emily Hughes Holland (Burt), Lynn Burk Hughes III, And Elizabeth Floyd Long (John); and her great grandchildren, Hughes Kelleher, Roe Holland, Jack and Charles Bernard, Ward and Colette Long and Caroline and Hughes Towns. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Beverly was born on March 19, 1922, in Metairie, Louisiana. She graduated from Louisiana State Normal School in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where she met and later married Dr. Hughes. Beverly enjoyed philanthropic and civic work throughout her lifetime. She was a Past President of the East Jefferson General Hospital Auxiliary, Chairman of their Nursing Scholarship Program for over 30 years and an early recipient of their "Great Lady Award". She was a Past President of the Metairie Woman's Club and a Past President of the New Orleans Garden Society. Beverly was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed traveling extensively. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Metairie.

The family would like to give their sincere thanks to the Camellia Floor Staff at Poydras Home for their very special loving care and kindness to Mrs. Watts.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 444 Metairie Road in Metairie, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 12:00PM. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 11:00AM. The interment will follow the Mass in Metairie Cemetery.
