Bradley Patrick Blanchard, age 46, passed away on Wednesday September 5, 2018 at his family home in Metairie, Louisiana. “Brad” was born on June 26, 1972 in New Orleans to Gene Blanchard and Lauralie Kelly Blanchard. Brad is a graduate of Jesuit High School (class of ’91) and University of New Orleans.
Brad loved the outdoors and spent many years in Colorado enjoying camping, hiking, snowboarding and kayaking. He had a knack for DIY and home improvement, using these skills to earn a living and as a hobby.
Friends and family were important elements for Brad, especially later in his life as he battled depression and substance abuse. These challenges never prevented him from helping others and many people appreciated his ‘good-Samaritan’ nature. Brad re-discovered his Catholic faith during the course of 2018 through the ministry at his parish church.
Brad is survived by his 3 children Casey, Gene and Tate Blanchard; his brother Brian; half-brother Rob; his grandmother Marie Rouyer Kelly; and his parents Lauralie and Gene who tirelessly supported his efforts to improve his life.
Family, friends and others whose lives were touched are invited to celebrate his memory at a memorial service at St. Angela Merici Church (901 Melody Dr., Metairie, LA 70002) on Friday, September 14, 2018. A gathering prior to mass will begin at 10:30 to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat. Mass will start at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Brad’s memory to St. Angela Merici Substance Addiction Ministry (mailing address: 901 Beverly Garden Dr. Metairie, LA 70002).
