Ms. Carolyn Sciambra Perseveaux, age 91, a native New Orleanian and resident of River Ridge, LA, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Henry J. Sciambra and Giacomina Schelleci Sciambra; her six siblings, Jacob H. Sciambra, John V. Sciambra, Henry J. Sciambra, Jr., Victoria Rein, Philomene Lochner, and Annette Juge Powell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends—too many to mention.
Carolyn and her wife, Joyce Fannaly, celebrated 68 years of friendship, love, and laughter together. They enjoyed cruising and sailed the inaugural cruise of Royal Caribbean’s Splendor of the Seas across the Pacific from Honolulu, Hawaii to Ensenada, Mexico, and sailed the inaugural cruise of Canard’s Queen Mary II, from England across the Atlantic to New York City and cruised through the Panama Canal. They were in the Bermuda Triangle when a storm engulfed the Oceania Ship. Together, Carolyn and Joyce went on 67 cruises (68 was called off due to Covid-19, by RCL). They both also enjoyed going on fully-escorted bus tours through Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Alaska, and Hawaii.
Carolyn graduated from Sacred Heart of Jesus High School on Canal Street and attended Tulane University on Tuition Refund from American Oil. She majored in accounting and related business subjects. She was on the Dean’s list every year and received a scholarship from the American Society of Women Accountants (Women’s CPAs). She then became Office Supervisor for CIGNA Insurance Company in their New Orleans brokerage office. While at CIGNA, she earned her degree in Insurance (F.L.M.I., Fellow, Life Management Institute) and was the first woman to achieve that degree in the three-state area of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. In 1979, she became a full all-lines insurance agent, representing 13 major companies until her retirement in 2002. Carolyn always said her proudest achievement was that “no one ever lost a penny investing in my A+ rated companies’ fixed annuities, with guaranteed renewal interest rates.” She was a member of four clubs: The Little Gourmets, The Gourmets, The Hyde Posse, and The Mamou Riding Club.
Carolyn gave a 90th birthday party for Joyce at the Rose Garden and invited seventy-five members of the clubs to come. Seventy-eight came, according to the door count!
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:30AM. The interment will follow the chapel service in Metairie Cemetery.
