Don Watson Smith

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sherron Fonte Smith, and his parents, Fred W. Smith Jr. and Geneva Blizzard Smith.

He is survived by his children, Kevin M. Smith (Kristy) and Heather Stephens, and grandchildren, Brady Smith and Amber, Tyler, and Addison Stephens.

Don was a graduate of East Jefferson High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He retired from ATT (formerly Bell South) after 40 years. In his later life he loved traveling with his wife. He will be missed by many friends and family.

The family would like to thank the ER, hospital, infusion team, oncology department, and hospice and palliative care at the New Orleans VA Medical Center. Their care and guidance were truly a blessing throughout Don’s battle.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held from 11AM – 1PM with a blessing to begin at 1PM. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
