Don S. Ziegler

Don Sterling Ziegler passed at the age of 91 on Wednesday June 4, 2025. Don was preceded in death by his former wife and friend, Sylvia Wahlen Ziegler, and by his beloved parents, Edward Leroy Ziegler and Valerie Cherry Ziegler. Don is survived by his daughter, Donna Ziegler Schexnayder (Bryan); his four sons, Edward Louis Ziegler, Charles John Ziegler (Risa), Richard Frederic Ziegler (Monique) and Terence Scott Ziegler (Michelle); and his eight grandchildren, Charles Alexander Ziegler, Frederick Austin Ziegler, Matthew Aaron Ziegler (Lanie), Tristan Edward Ziegler, Tessa Grace Ziegler, Ryan Michael Ziegler, Stefan Eric Schexnayder and Sophie Grace Schexnayder. Don was born in New Orleans on April 4, 1934 and was a lifelong resident of the New Orleans area. He graduated from Alcee Fortier Boys High School, class of 1952 and attended both Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and the Louisiana State University of New Orleans. Don began his career working with Boh Brothers Construction for five years and then the next 35 years with Sears and Roebuck. He was a former member of the Krewe of Carrollton. Don was an avid LSU fan. The only acceptable manner of keeping his head warm was his sacred LSU baseball cap. Inspired by music, he was an annual attendee of Jazz Fest for the majority of his life. Most of all, he dearly loved his children and grandchildren. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Fidelis Home Care for the love and care given to him in the last year of his life. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans on Tuesday June 10th at 1:00 pm. The visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 am. The internment will follow the chapel service at Lake Lawn Park.
