Donald "Donnie" A. Lala, Jr.

Donald “Donnie” A. Lala Jr. passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at the age of 64. He was born in New Orleans, but made Slidell his home for the past 40 years. Donnie is preceded in death by his father, Donald A. Lala Sr. and mother, Rose Canal Lala.

He is survived by his loving wife, Melanie Braud Lala and daughter, Penny Lala. Also survived by his sister, Nancy Lala; his niece, Emily Metzler Kinsley (Ryan) and nephew, Eric Metzler (Virginia). Donnie was also adored and loved by his stepdaughter, Sydney Thompson; his stepson, Justin Burkes (Em); infant step-granddaughter, Sage Rosalie Burkes and countless family and friends.

Donnie honorably served as Deputy First Class with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office for 21 years, of which 14 years was served in the Special Operations Division (Marine Patrol). He also served in the Honor Guard and received a life saving award during his tenure. Donnie enjoyed fishing, live music/concerts (Rock), boat riding & live sporting events (especially the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, New Orleans Saints and the New York Islanders).

Donnie was respected and loved by all who came in his path. The impact he had on everyone’s life was nothing but positive. The world lost a great man, and heaven gained an Angel!

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, starting at 9:00 AM, followed by a service in the Chapel at 12:00 PM.
