

Dorothy Dauner Franz passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on June 19, 1931. After graduating from St. Stephen’s High School, she married her beloved husband, Earl, and they started a family. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother whose life exemplified love and adoration for all who had the opportunity to know her. She enjoyed cooking amazing meals, appreciated beautiful flowers and gardens, and never passed up an opportunity to travel, whether to the gulf coast or across the globe. While she spent part of her life working in various professions, her true passion was for her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Helen Franz Eshleman (Charlie), Diane Franz Scheets (Gary); son, David Earl Franz (Sandy); grandchildren, Michael Canseco (Julie), Katherine C Holstein (Ryan), Bennet Franz, Peter Franz, Patrick Scheets, Cecilia Scheets; and great grandchildren, Amelia and Higgins Canseco, Hadley Holstein. The love she shared with each and every one of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was unparalleled.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her mutually adored husband of 53 years, Earl Franz; parents, Daniel Dauner and Zulime Angamar Dauner; and brother, René Dauner.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass at The National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, located at 2705 State Street in New Orleans, on January 2, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Shrine of Lady of Prompt Succor or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Dorothy was laid to rest privately in Metairie Cemetery.
