Douglas Junius Robicheaux Sr., age 95, went to be with Our Lord on Tuesday evening July 26, 2016 at Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home. Douglas was born in Franklin, Louisiana on April 30. 1921. Moving to Houston at an early age, he married Margaret Turner in 1946, then moved to Metairie, Louisiana to raise their seven children. For the last 32 years he has been a resident of Old Mandeville. Survivors include, his sister Geraldine Phillips and brother, Leonard Robicheaux, his three sons Douglas Jr. (Norris), Walter (Jan) and Mark (Jan) Robicheaux, and his four daughters Charlotte Carty (Steve), Beverly McBee (Louis), Sharon Lee (Steve) and Patricia Riley (Michael). He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus Robicheaux, Marie Hebert Robicheaux and seven siblings. Douglas was a loving husband, caring father and grandfather and helpful friend. He served in the Merchant Marines during W.W. II. His career was a River Transportation Dispatcher which he held for 35+ years and retiring in 1986 only to take on driving a school bus part time and putting more time toward construction and renovation around the house. His joys in life were volunteering annually at Our Lady of the Lake in Mandeville, coaching little league, and playing tennis. We will remember him for never turning down an opportunity to help a neighbor, or lending a hand to family when in need. Douglas loved being outdoors, either in his yard working on projects, cultivating fruit trees or playing with grandchildren. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the loving staff of Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home who had taken wonderful care of our father.
