Emily Michelle Loubiere, daughter of Max Loubiere and Victoria Johnston Loubiere, died on December 11th, 2025 at 33 years old. Emily was born on October 21, 1992 in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was under the loving care of her parents and alongside her sisters Molly and Savannah that Emily developed the curiosity and unmistakable humor that she would hone for the rest of her life.
Emily attended Mount Carmel Academy, where she fostered a formative art practice and further cultivated her indelible sense of humor. After graduating in 2011, Emily followed her passion for all things culinary first at the famed Pizzeria Mozza in Los Angeles, before returning (motivated at least a little by missing the family dog, Louie) to step into the role of sous chef at Shaya in New Orleans. Her lifelong affection for the craftsmanship and culture of Japan, which she would visit many times, informed her later work within the small team at the respected Coutelier Knife Shop.
Driven by a generous spirit and deep social empathy, Emily returned to school, first to complete an undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of New Orleans (Class of 2024), and then to complete her Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) at Tulane University with a special interest in prison reform and restorative justice. She recently completed an internship in client advocacy at the Orleans Public Defenders office and spent many years volunteering for the vital New Orleans harm reduction network Trystereo.
Her creativity and humor shone through in everything she did. A talented ceramicist, she created many treasured pieces under the playful moniker Shitty Pots. On weekends, she could often be found at the farmers market, camping in matching overalls, or having an all star breakfast at Waffle House with her loving partner Josh Kleinpeter. A matinee movie, a family pasta dinner, and finding an obscure knickknack would bring her immense joy, not to mention any and all animal interactions.
Emily’s life will be forever remembered by her parents, Max and Victoria Loubiere, her older sister Molly Loubiere (Jordan Mcguire), her twin sister Savannah Loubiere, her long term partner Josh Kleinpeter, her cat Merkin, and her dog Louie as well as a vast circle of family, friends, and community members who revered her singular spirit.
A celebration of Emily’s life will be held on Thursday, December 18th at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Visitation begins at 10 AM until the chapel service at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Emily to Innocence and Justice Louisiana (formerly Innocence Project New Orleans), a cause that was near to her heart, at www.justicelouisiana.org
