Ernest George Cuny "Ernie" "Sonny"

Ernest was the son of the late Alexis Joseph Cuny and Veriniece Prattini Cuny and brother of the late Veriniece “Butsie” Johannah Cuny. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joycelyn “Bab” Chagnard Cuny; son, Brian Alexis Cuny (Mary); daughter, Debra “Babe” Theresa Cuny (Kermit); Paw Paw of Alexis Alexander Cuny (Brie) and Ashley Cuny O’Connor (Matt); and great grandfather of Aiden Alexander Cuny and Charlotte Louise O’Connor.

Sonny was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1956.

He worked for years with his parents and sister at their several businesses including “Butsie and Sonny’s” on Toulouse Street. He also held a career with the U.S. Postal Service for many years. The family business eventually changed from restaurant and bar to commercial real estate due to his mother’s entrepreneurial skills. His hobbies were playing the horses and fishing. He went fishing so often with his buddies that the family would have fish fries on many Friday evenings.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 from 9:00AM until 11:00AM. A graveside service will immediately follow the visitation at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
