Freda Louise Oddo Green, widow and beloved wife of Harry E. Green, President and Chairman of LoneStar Industries, went to heaven peacefully on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at her Slidell home. She was a previous resident of New Orleans and Hammond, LA. and New York City, NY. Freda was born January 19, 1923, to Freda Wilson Oddo and graduated Class of 1940 from John McDonough High School.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Byrnes Cosse’ Foster and is survived by her longtime partner, Marco Culotta; her four grandchildren, Cheryl Cosse’ Bruno and husband Timothy Bruno, Tina Cosse’ Kiehm and husband Terence Kiehm, Irvy E. “Chip” Cosse’ and granddaughter-in-law Michelle Cosse’, and Dr. Nicole Cosse’ Gagnon and husband Dean Gagnon; Great-grandchildren, Michelle Barthel Lanoix and husband David Lanoix, Mignon LeBreton, Skyler Villeneuve and wife Brittany Peters Villeneuve, Grayson Brumfield and wife Kelly Rogers Brumfield, Armand and Andrea Orihuela, and Cameron and Caitlin Cosse’; Great-Great-grandchildren, Cason and Addison Brumfield and Cora Villeneuve.
In her retirement years, Freda was very active as a volunteer, organizer, and chairwoman of many organizations – to name a few she was the creator and “QUEEN Bell Ringer” for the Hammond “Young Girls”, Hammond Honeys and Baton Rouge Belles Bunco Groups, Charter Member of the World War II Museum, La Primavera Ladies Service Club, Charter member and past President of Hammond Area Republican Women’s Club, Member of Shiloh Homemakers, Charter and past Board member of the SLU f.e.Lions, Member of Columbia Theater Advisory Board, past Board Member and member of Hammond Regional Arts Center, organizer and Grande Dame of Les Belles de Bon Temps (The Lunch Bunch), Member of Southeastern Louisiana University Community Advisory Council, past charter member and lieutenant of Krewe of Omega, past Secretary/Treasurer of Tangipahoa Crime Stoppers, past member and Woman of the Year of the Hammond Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association, Publicity Charwoman for building the First Presbyterian Church’s Ginger Ford Habitat Walker Family Home, and Member of PRIDE and past mentor for SLU Women’s Basketball Team. Freda was the matriarch of her family and a pillar of her community.
We know that Freda’s life will continue to inspire and connect us all as we work every day to live more like FREDA – spreading love and light like glitter. We celebrate her legacy with memories to last forever.
A Catholic Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, in Hammond, La. A celebration of life soirée will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at The White Magnolia in Kentwood, La, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Freda O. Green Scholarship in Business at Southeastern Louisiana University.
