George Joseph Candebat, Sr., 90, peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Born in the French Quarter to Dominic Michel Joseph Candebat and Anne Agnes Richards, George was a true son of New Orleans who spent most of his life Uptown, where he and his family became fixtures of the community. He was the last of his siblings to join them in heaven. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wilbur Louis, Dominic Michael Jr., Robert Joseph, William Richard, and James Douglas Sr., and his sisters Willa Mae Finnan, Reinanne Blouin, and Joan Daigle.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Henrietta Josephine Huber Candebat, with whom he built a life filled with love and partnership. Together, they raised two sons: George Joseph Jr. (Julie) and Craig Joseph (Roxanne). His legacy continues through five grandchildren—Jonathan (Kaitlin), Casey (Ashley), Kendall, Jennifer, and Jillian Candebat, and seven great-grandchildren who brought immeasurable joy to his later years.
A proud member of I.B.E.W. Local 130, George recently received his remarkable 70-year pin, a testament to his dedication to his craft and his union brothers. Alongside his electrical career, George and Henrietta successfully owned and operated House of Flowers in New Orleans for over 40 years, bringing beauty and comfort to families throughout the community during life's most important moments.
Known for his wonderful sense of humor, George loved making people laugh. He enjoyed trips to Gatlinburg, cruises, and had an enduring love of sweets.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124 on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. The interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
