George William Hill

12 June, 1932 – 15 December, 2024
IN THE CARE OF

Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries

George William Hill passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2024. George was born in New Orleans on June 12, 1932, to Mary Joyce Hill and John Griswold Hill, Sr. He graduated from Jesuit High School in 1950. George earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Notre Dame in 1954 and a Master of Business Administration from Tulane University in 1962. He worked as a CPA for more than 50 years. George married the love of his life and best friend, Vivian Gelpi Hill, in 1955. They began their married life in Fort Knox, Kentucky, where George served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. George loved life, family, and friends. He was truly interested in people and always wanted to know what everyone was up to. He loved to travel and thoroughly enjoyed family vacations. He loved tennis – both playing and watching it. On weekends, you could find George sailing with friends on Lake Pontchartrain. He also enjoyed dancing and made sure to get everyone on the dance floor. George was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He gave us all many loving and funny memories that we cherish and will retell fondly for years to come. George and Vivian, who recently celebrated 69 years of marriage, loved and were extremely proud of their growing family. They were blessed with 4 children: Michael (Jamey), Kathy Aponte (José), Susan Yokum (Brian), and Steven (Michelle). They were further blessed with 12 grandchildren: Megan (Sam Conley) and Aubrey (Michael Lott-Manier) Hill; Jennifer Fletcher (James) and José (Jennifer) Aponte; Karen, Ellen Reed (Nollan), Kevin, and Logan Yokum; and Thomas, Colin, Ian, and Katherine (fiancé Jonah Carmena) Hill. They were also blessed with 5 great-grandchildren: Cecilia Manier; Justin, Jace, and Jude Fletcher; and Addie Aponte. He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son, George, and his brother, John. George was a parishioner of St. Clement of Rome Parish. He was a member of the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club, Stratford Club, and Boston Club. Special thanks to Compassus for their prompt and attentive hospice care. The family held a private service to celebrate a life well lived.
