Gwen G. Glindmeyer was called home to her God, and beloved departed family members, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. She was 90 years of age. Gwen was the loving wife of the late Norman J. Glindmeyer; mother of Sharon G. Reuther (Douglas J.) and Norman J. Glindmeyer, Jr. (Sandy); mother-in-law of the late Daniel L. Hurstell: grandmother of the late Daniel L. Hurstell, Jr. (Natalie); daughter of the late Martha Mae Cooper (Lee J.); sister of Susie Barton Asbridge, and the late Ashton J. Greig, Edward Greig (Janell), Robert Greig, and William Barton. Gwen is also survived by a plethora of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gwen, often known a “Momma Gwen” or “Mimi” to many who adored her, was a caring and loving person who often showed her love by making you a pan of her famous brownies. She was a great cook and entertainer and known for her potato pancakes (the hit of Christmas Dinner) and her potato salad (the hit of her Halloween birthday parties and many other family gatherings).
Gwen’s faith in her God was very strong and holy candles were always burning in her house. She looked forward to Thursdays when she went to see her gals at Linda’s Beauty Salon, especially Ali and Carol. During the Covid isolation, she truly missed her gang at the E.J. Breather’s Club, but always kept in touch. Our sweet Gwen had many friends including her ladies of Le Club and her weekly card game group with her best friend Joan.
In her later years, she looked forward to Monday night dinners with all of her family. She fought until the end to maintain her independence and always looked beautiful and in-fashion.
At Gwen’s request, she wanted to express a special thanks to her caring neighbor and friend Betty and her dear sister-in-law Joyce. Her friend Sheryl was also often there to lend a helping hand.
But nobody did as much for Gwen as her daughter Sharon. Daily excursions to the drug store, grocery, Wal-Mart, iced-coffee runs, cooking dinner… whatever was wanted or needed. Sharon was always at her mom’s beck and call. Gwen was a wonderful lady and an even better mother. She will be dearly missed until we see her again.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 1:00PM. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will be private.
