Jacquelyn Smith Wright

Jacquelyn Smith Wright, of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020.

Mrs. Wright was a retired teacher of the New Orleans Public School System. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Alabama State University. She also earned a Master’s +30 in Elementary Education from Xavier University of Louisiana.

She was married to her loving husband, Edward C. Wright Jr. for 63 years. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Wright was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the Retired Teacher’s Association and the Crescent City Links. She was also actively involved in volunteering at the Shelter for Battered Women and the Lafon Home of the United Methodist Church. She was a member and lector at the Transfiguration of the Lord Church.

She is survived by her 3 children. Ronnie J. Wright (Mitchellville, Maryland), Gregory G. Wright (Maureen), and Paula N Wright (Grayslake, IL). She has one granddaughter, Jessica C. Wright; three nieces, two great nieces, two great nephews and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldo R. Smith Sr. and Mrs. Malvenia Reid Smith; three brothers, Waldo R. Smith Jr., Arthur D. Smith, Rodney A. Smith; and one sister, Mabel A. Smith. One sister-in-law, Dorothy W. Baines, (Nashville, TN).

Private services were held on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 with interment in Lake Lawn Park Cemetery.
