OBITUARY

Joan Dean Bain

6 August, 1940 – 5 July, 2024
IN THE CARE OF

Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries

Joan Bain passed away peacefully at her home on July 5, 2024, from complications with ALS. Elliott, her beloved spouse of nearly 49 years, was by her side, and her family and aides provided unwavering support during her final weeks. She was a cherished wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Joan spent her childhood in Detroit, Michigan, and was working as a legal secretary when her dear cousin, Elaine Rabin, introduced her to her future husband, Elliott. After a brief courtship, they married and raised their close-knit family of three sons, Steven, Brian, and Bradley, all of whom reside in New Orleans.

She was very loyal, and her neighbors and friends became family to her. She always remembered her extended family during holidays and lifetime milestones with greeting cards, notes, and calls.

Joan's impact extended to several volunteer community activities. She was a Touro Synagogue member and volunteered at Children's Hospital and Woldenberg Village Assisted Living.

She and Elliott traveled far and wide together around the United States and Europe.

Throughout her life, her family was everything to her. She warmly welcomed her sons’ spouses into the family and had a special bond with her grandchildren. Joan also treasured her close relationship with her parents, of blessed memory, Lillian and Charles Dean. Her sister Carol Kromirs and husband Michael were best friends to her and Elliott, and they moved to New Orleans eight years ago to be together. She also cherished her nephew Jason Kromirs, his wife Melanie Topper, and their children Pearl and Eli, like they were her own children and grandchildren.

In addition to her spouse, Elliott, Joan is survived by her children, Steven Bain (Aimee), Brian Bain (Julie Koppman), Bradley Bain (Daniela), her sister, Carol Kromirs (Michael), her sister-in-law, Harriet Liroff (Richard), her grandchildren, Lindsey Bain, Joseph "JK" Bain, David Bain, and Jacob Bain, her nieces and nephews, Jason Kromirs (Melanie Topper), Susan Klinger (Joel), Bruce Liroff (Patti) and Robert Liroff, and many great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Joan received extraordinary, loving care from Dr. Stephen Kantrow. She was lovingly cared for in her final days by Stephanie Gibson, Schwan Perkins, and Bernice Parker. Dr. Diane Africk provided devoted guidance and counsel to the family. The family is so grateful to them all.
