Jon was one of a kind. He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father of 3, and a good friend. He had a unique and generous soul; he always enjoyed feeding people, especially the less fortunate. Jon was definitely the life of the party; always looking for a laugh but had no tolerance for drama. He worked as a plumber, but his real passion was music. He was the vocalist in a band called “Voodoo Jones”. Jon could spit out lyrics to any tune at the drop of a hat.
He surely left an impression on everyone he has encountered and will surely be missed dearly by everyone.
Jon was preceded in death by his father, Edward Nelson; his son, Justin Nelson; stepfather, William Lee; and nephews, Troy and Daryll Nelson.
Jon is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Tamatha Nelson; his mother, Mary Hart; his daughter, Sarah Nelson; his son, Dylan Nelson; brothers, Troy and Joseph Nelson; step-brothers, Bud and Burt Lee; grandchildren, Roan Bealer and Ivy Nelson; and many good friends he considered his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Gathering celebrating Jon’s life at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd New Orleans, LA 70124 on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The gathering will be held from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm, with prayers being held at 2:00 pm.
