On Monday, May 19th, 2014, our Heavenly Father, surrounded by Mary Hopkins Bethancourt and Huey Pierce Bethancourt welcomed their son, Joseph Michael Bethancourt to his family in Heaven. Most of you knew him as Joe, but Emily Davenport Bethancourt knew him as her husband, and his boys, Daniel Michael Perret (Amanda Brenegan Perret), Jonathan Matthew Bethancourt, and Joshua Michael Bethancourt knew him as Dad. Born in Marrero, LA, Joe was the baby of his family. His big brother, Huey Bethancourt, Jr., and sisters, Theresa Nava, Linda Gibson, Margaret Dufour, Mary McMillion, Elizabeth Hernandez, and Patricia Cruz and their families will miss their brother, uncle, cousin, and brother-in-law and all the joy and friendship he brought to their worlds. Joe was like the "Energizer Bunny" - a very self-motivated man who never stopped working or living his life, even after his diagnosis. In fact, it made him live his life to the absolute fullest, squeezing a lifetime of memories into just four years. And, all of those memories involved his family - his greatest joy. From the time Joe was a teenager, he was an entrepreneur, owning and operating several businesses. He loved the fact that owning his own business afforded him the opportunity to not only work along-side the love of his life, Emily, and their beautiful boys; but, it also allowed him to teach people and share his great wealth of knowledge. As hard as Joe worked, he played even harder. From Louisiana bayous to cruises to sandy beaches in Mexico, Joe loved anything and everything to do with the water. He loved to travel and cherished his trip to Wales to visit family. Joe was a member of The Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Slidell, LA, and exemplified what it meant to be a good man, a good husband, a good father, and a good Christian. As personable and as happy as Joe was, he never met a stranger. His smile, his laugh, and his "Hey Baby" were signature Joe-Joe characteristics. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Cemetery. To view and sign the family guestbook, please visit www.lakelawnmetairie.com..
